Hi

Planning a trip to DC this summer especially to see what we can of the Smithsonian museums and of course some other places. We are not planning on staying in
DC as we figure with good access to the Metro, we could stay in Maryland or Virginia $ for $ in a place better suited for us. (Read be clean/be safe/be
cheaper and have a pool...haaa)

Anyone know what state/town/area possibly to stay in reasonable distance outside of DC itself if we wanted to go to Smithsonian most of the days...

I have had computer issues (new hard drive crashed!!) but anyway since I'm passed bitching about it.....

Looks like we are staying near the Pentagon in VA, but then there has to be a major Metro crash last week which is just what I needed to hear.

I'm fairly familiar with the DC area. I would suggest that you find something in Arlington or Alexandria in VA. Someone suggested Crystal
City, but I still think that the hotels/motels in that area are pretty expensive...

Neko - The Washington National Cathedral has organ demos on Monday and Wednesday at 12:30. The organist plays three songs but also tells the history of the
organ and the three songs show the range of the organ. You sit in organ area. Very nice, plus any of the tours at the Cathedral are worth it. Enjoy your trip,
my Husband grew up in Gaithsburg and his family is still there, we always use the Shady Grove Metro station. I was dp923 on the other site but changed to
Ocean923 here - may look into changing it back. Have a good one.

Thanks Rock,

You have given great pointers...even if THAT hotel wouldn't work, we know an area that could. We know where there is access to the Metro..that is exactly
what I was hoping to find.

KAL would be a great resource...hopefully we can connect.

When we had our little RTVT reunion a few years ago we stayed at the Crystal City Marriott... There's a subway station literally in the basement! It's
in Arlington, VA. I think the Hotels down there were cheaper on the weekends than during the week... We used a "Stay 3" deal of some kind where we
checked in on Friday and got a deal on Saturday night... I don't know that it had a pool!

I would make sure you talk to KAL... She works in DC...

I flew Southwest out of Manchester and it was dirt cheap...

I've wanted to go back since my last trip!
