Survivor Samoa Episode 1 (9-17-09) |
Lead | ||

You guys let me down. I wasn't paying attention and was flipping channels and saw Surv Samoa started and I missed the first 5 minutes. I vaguely remember
the promos on BB11 but didn't remember it started tonight.

I think this will be a really interesting season, but I don't think Russell will last too long, he's made too many alliances too early. He seems to
forget people talk.
He did come up with a pretty interesting story of New Orleans and losing his dog, and being a firefighter so he grabbed his ax when the water started coming in. No early on favorites or people I dislike. |

Russell (i think there are 2?) has the oddest strategy I have ever seen in all the Surv seasons. Pouring out water to make your tribe weak, burning the socks
of another player who now has blisters, lying about N.O. and a 9 year old dog is wild. I will say he is unique and may be fun to watch.

This is the first premiere episode of Survivor that I thought was great! Whoever the editors are, they did a really good job. Interesting players so far and
they did a nice job of fleshing out what are sure to be future conflicts, alliances et al
Russell is doomed I must say. He commited the cardinal sin of playing too hard, too fast, too early. And his strategy of weakening his team by throwing out water was daft. Not to mention he is a total asshole. I hope he doesn't go far, but at least makes it to the jury. LOL |

I missed the first 5 min, so how did they get from 20 down to 18? I'm going to watch it online to see what I missed.

I don't think I've ever seen a first Tribal Council that was as confrontational as the one we saw tonight. And Russell, what can you say about Mr.
Scum? Makes Johnny Fairplay look like a saint. That was only a dead grandmother. That can hardly compare to a hurricane, a flood and a dead dog. This man
is a troll and I am so looking forward to him getting blindsided, preferably by the "dumb" women on this tribe. But please, God, make it soon.

Actually I was pretty amazed, and a bit frightened that Russell managed to get Marisa out. I like Betsy, and I think she will be the one to call him out. I
think with the lies he's telling he's weaving a "tangled web". He says he lived in New Orleans, now I've only been there a few times
but I could come up with some information that people who live there would know, but he wouldn't. You know there is nothing that makes Survivor more
interesting than a villian, so that's why they are playing it up, giving him lots of face time because I don't think he will be there long.

I don't like to deal in sterotypes, but if Shambo is not a lesbian she must get hit in by lesbians all the time.

The cop (Betsy?) is on to him and he's got so many things going on that something's bound to catch up to him. On another note - I though the opening sequence with Jeff was beautifully shot - glad he didn't get washed away. Looking forward to some great shots of Samoa this season.

Well if you misheard Skeptik so did I, I remember seeing a commercial where they said that 2 wouldn't make it past the first day.
When they had to vote for a leader I thought their first responsibility was going to be to eliminate one person from there tribe. I also missed a little bit of the beginning of the show, along with a few other parts of the show, such as the sock burning. I was busy cooking dinner when the show first started so I missed bits and pieces of it. |

The CBS web site says that the 1st episode will be on again Saturday 8:00 pm EDT but my Comcast guide does not show it.
Anyway, I don't see how Russell's ploy of making his tribe miserable and weak could work. There will be a tribe shake-up sometime and he might be planning on making new alliances with the former Galu players. If he takes out his old Foa tribe mates, when the merge comes he will be in the minority. We also didn't hear anything about an Exile Island or any HII's this time (yet).

My analysis of the episode:
- Tribes: Foa Foa seem to be the more interesting tribe and will probably continue to get more of the focus - Russell H: In case anyone couldn't tell from the ads, he's the star of the season. Will be very interesting to see how his strategy plays out. - Shambo: The potential fan favourite for this season. I'm not the biggest fan but she provides a nice contrast to all the young ones in Galu. - Betsy: Already suspicious of Russell. Had a very interesting first episode. I think she will win. The season looks like it'll be about the cop (Betsy) trying to catch the criminal (Russell H). - Ben: He seems like Tyson to Russell's Coach. Came out with some hilarious lines, bit of a jerk. He's the antithesis to what JT was last season - He's the not-so-good ole country boy. - Russell S: I love the contrast between the 2 Russells - Good vs Evil, Black vs White, Tall vs Short, Positive for Galu vs Negative for Foa Foa. Russell S will be one of the fan favourites if he lasts a while. - Ashley: My favourite. Seems a bit naive but I hope she can go far. - Jaison: Loved how he could swim and therefore destroyed Mike's stereotype. I didn't like Mike and Liz bringing up the race issue in this episode. - Marisa: Sad to see her go first. She had potential to be a good character. - The rest of Foa Foa: Mick (the leader) is boring, don't like Liz or Mike, Natalie basically wasn't shown. - The rest of Galu: Erik seems funny and Dave has potential. John seems like he has no idea how to play the game. Brett (reminds me of Erik from Micronesia) and the girls on Galu weren't really shown. |

I just read the cast Bios on the CBS site and was surprised there seem to be no openly gay men. It seems like every season we have one and I think CT is right
about Shambo (reminds me of Scout) being gay. Lots of lawyers here this time and a couple of hair stylists. Not any wanna-be actors although a couple of the
young guys are bartenders which could be code for "I'm waiting to be discovered by a producer".
My early picks to win is Jaison (reminds me of Yul because of his accomplishments) and Liz because of her background. With this 19th installment we have had 11 men winners and only 7 women, so I'll say MB will try like hell to get one of the gals to win to make things more even. And why is it that every season, the large chested girls go out early? Marisa had to be blurred out during the challenge. Why does MB punish the dirty old men?
From the promo for next time, I'll bet Russell H gets called out for rough play in the challenge. |

hmmmmmmmm, guess I'm "odd man out" so to speak, lol, but I like MIck, and I actually think he too is onto Russell, but either they've
creatively editted it out, or I'm going crazy.... seemed to me at one point that Mick, hidden from view, was actually watching RUssell go back and forth
between the various members of the tribe. My guess is that he nad Betsy will somehow hook up and talk, and arrive and the same conclusions about good ole Russ.
I also think neither has called him out yet because a) he is targeting the weak, rather than strong players of the tribe, and b)they need his strength, for
now.
I have 2 faves at this point : Mick and Shambo (who does NOT remind me of Scout in the least, roflmao, BUT she DOES remind me a great deal of Twila! and ohhhhhhhh what wonderful vindication would it be if she and Russell were at the end, and she won over him! LOL) I think this could be a very interesting season indeed!

Can't remember his name, but that rocket scientist guy was pinging my gaydar. Even if he isn't I am sure there must be a gay person on this season.
The producers always try to bring a cross section of society every year. And I think I remember one season there was a gay guy on it, but either he
wasn't out, or it never came up during shooting, but he did "come out" later. JP or JT I think???? From the season Yul won.

Yes, now that I think about it, Twila's personality was more like Shambo but Scout was pretty openly lesbian. And here is a C&P from John (rocket
scientist):
Fincher says that he is at his best during high pressure situations and times of complete chaos. He finds idiots or "unskilled" people amusing, and has no problem telling them to their face. John has traveled extensively in South America, Europe, South Africa, and Canada, and he plans to use his experience of dealing with people from diverse backgrounds to his best advantage. John is no stranger to creating conflict and thinks it could work to his advantage in the game. Although, John also believes his good looks and charm will help even out his aggressive personality, especially with the ladies. He also will not apologize living a privileged life and claims that he will party his way around the world with his winnings. The comment about "with the ladies" makes me think he might not be gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). 10 trivia points for the name of the show where that phrase was the main theme. |
